Mortgage Company Layoffs
Did you realize that the mortgage industry laid off approximately 10% of it's entire workforce in a recent 30 day period? I recently met with a group of industry professionals and one of the comments was that it may get worse before it gets better. Remember that in 2006 we had excellent interest rates. Well, it seems as though as low as those interest rates were, almost 60% of new mortgages were something other than fixed rates. Those rates will begin to adjust soon. Even worse, a lot of those mortgages are negative amortization which allows the mortgage to increase beyond the value of the property. This could be devasting in areas where values have decreased significantly.

Property Tax Rate Stays The Same!
The tax rate in North Richland Hills will remain the same for the next fiscal year under a budget that includes $500,000 to design the city's new recreation center. Some homeowner tax bills will increase because their property values have increased.
The city is building a new library in Home Town NRH expected to open this spring. Construction of the recreation center will begin in 2009 and open in 2010.
